The holidays are upon us and it’s time to decorate! Dead trees and energy-hungry lights are probably not the top choices for those of you who are eco-conscious. Luckily, there are lots of green products to choose from. If you need some ideas to get started, we’ve listed a few in this blog post.
LED Candles
Even though a traditional flickering candle or two create warm winter holiday ambiance, they might be too dangerous to have around with kids, pets, asthma or even clumsy relatives. LED candles are more eco-friendly and looks deceptively similar. They are lightweight, reusable, and made of real wax, just like a real candle, and are even designed to flicker in the same way – only without the flame, smoke and messy, spilling wax. In addition to cutting the obvious fire hazard because they don’t use a real flame, LED candles are also safer for your lungs and your indoor air quality. What we love most about them is that they’re truly sustainable because they’ll last forever, unlike real candles, which quickly burn down to a stump and need to be replaced constantly.
Homemade Wreathes
Not all wreaths require cutting branches off of trees. You can make your own. In fact, the only materials required are 1) small pieces of fabric swatches from table cloths, placemats, pillow cases and remnant fabrics found in the far depths of your closet 2) An 18″ diameter wire wreath frame with four circular hoops. 3) Bits and bobs from used or broken holiday decorations(bows, bells, and faux berry branches)
LED Holiday Lights
In case you didn’t know, LED holiday lights are better than incandescent ones because they use way less electricity, don’t burn out or break, last longer and save you money and energy, and now they’re better-looking than ever before! This year there are new warm colors on the market, omni-direction glow and lower prices. These ones shown above are as low as $12-15 and will add sparkle to your holiday displays without burning a hole in your wallet.
