Herman Miller offers a wide range of standing desks and other corresponding office furniture.
But before you jump in, it’s important to give some thought to how those will fit into an office and how they should be used.
Standing is healthy!
According to Healthline, standing is healthy and the benefits can be myriad. Standing desks can…
- Lower obesity risk
- Lower blood sugar levels, particularly after-lunch spikes
- Appear to Reduce Back Pain
- Help Improve Mood and Energy Levels
- May Even Boost Productivity
Standing isn’t a cure for sitting
If you buy your personnel standing desks, be sure that either your office is flexible enough to allow for people to move between the standing and sitting desks during the day, or be sure to buy desks that easily adjust between sitting and standing. The reason is quite simple – until you’ve tried standing all day, you have no idea how hard it might be. And while sitting all day every day might not be healthy, standing all day is not generally comfortable.
Position standing desks appropriately
Keep in mind that it matters where people’s eyes are positioned. A completely comfortable office to sit in is not always comfortable to stand in. Reflections, glare, even low ceilings can be problematic and can limit the placement of standing desks, so be sure you have a good spot for them! It might be helpful to stand in the spots you’re planning to place the desks in a few times at various times of day to make you you’d feel comfortable standing there for a long period.
Move around
Especially when you first start using a standing desk, it’s important to move around a bit. Be conscious to not lock your legs, and don’t push beyond your limits if you’re not used to standing for hours at a time. It’s more uncomfortable than you might think!
Ready? Get out there and take a stand!
